Implied Motion

Emphasis and Focal Point

Emphasis by Isolation

Emphasis by Contrast

Group Project

For my idea, I thought we could take various items from nature like flower petals, rocks, and leaves and make them into a flower shape to kind of symbolize what makes up all of nature.

Emotive Lines

These lines symbolize happiness and joy.

Colorful Music Video

Money as Art

I thought this was a cool piece of art because they made flowers out of the money. I also like how the money is pink because then it makes me think of cherry blossoms.

Synesthesia

This is consider sound-color synesthesia. To me, it looks like it almost represents chaos is occurring and there is so much noise because of how everything is scattered randomly.

Money Design

I enjoy seeing all the different kinds of currencies in the world. I actually collect some but it isn't a huge collection. After searching through the internet, I think my most favorite one that I have seen is the Romanian currency for 1 Million Lei from 2003 from what I have read. It is very beautiful because of the purple flower that is on the front of the currency. The colors that are used for the actual currency makes it really pretty, too. I couldn't find much information on the reason for the certain images on the currency like the masks but none the less, it is still quite intriguing. I would love to acquire this currency to put in my collection because it could possibly be my favorite one.

Chuck Close

I love this painting of his because after I saw it being made during the video on Tuesday, it looked even better. When he first started, I thought it was going to be entirely made out of all those bright colors but then he started adding darker and skin tone colors. It surprised me a lot to see how he did that. I thought it was difficult doing paintings like that, square by square, but he does a fantastic job.

Repetition of Form

Repetition is used her to convince people to buy this perfume/cologne by making the crocodile scales look like hearts for their Valentine's Day special. When I saw this, it actually did make me want to go buy one because it is very beautiful executed.

Gestalt 2

This is the logo of the company for one of my spiral notebooks and it seems like it kind of displays Gestalt's principle of continuation. Each letter sort of flows on to the next one as it goes down.

Andy Goldsworthy

I really like this image because the way the leaves are placed actually makes it look like it was already sitting like that besides the little hole in the middle. I also like the contrast between the colors of the leaves and the rest of the area.

Unity - Gestalt

This image below is representative of one of the many Gestalt Principles. The principle that is being expressed in this image is proximity. The fifteen human figures put closely together makes the whole image look like a tree.

Louise Nevelson

This piece, called Rain Garden II, is very unique. When I look at it, it looks to me like a garden full of different kinds of fruits and vegetables. I can never get tired of looking at this piece of artwork because there are so many different shapes to observe within the whole piece. It is said that she creates her work by using things that people would normally throw out and brings new life to them that wasn't intentionally made to be.

Lucas Samaras

Lucas Samaras is a very interesting artist. Most of his artwork concerning boxes tend to be a little distorted and disturbing to me. The piece I have chosen below is one of his more interesting looking creations. When I look at this, it kind of looks like a box full of interesting items he has come across from time to time. The box itself looks quite beautiful, as well.

Joseph Cornell

I really like artwork by Joseph Cornell because I think each kind of butterflies is like an artwork in itself. I believe what he is trying to say with this piece is that everyone has their own individual ideas and styles and we only get to see a little of that at face value. That is why he shaded every part of the glass except a little viewing hole so we can only see a portion of the butterflies beauty. It is very interesting how he made it look like the glass is foggy.

Form and Content

People like to express their ideas in many different way. The purpose of this is to tell people information or a story about what they are trying to talk about. Below are some examples of this.

I got this picture from the blog of a member of one of my favorite bands, Linkin Park, who is also an artist. His name is Mike Shinoda and he created this piece called "Follow the Leader" which I think represents that people dress the way they do to follow the style of more famous people. The guy in the very front is trying to copy the styles of the many rappers pictured in the back.

Form and content can be real simple, too, and not have to actually be a work of art. For example, the simple recycle symbol that we see everywhere was created for the sole purpose to teach people to recycle certain items.

Definition of Design

We can define the term "design" in many different ways. The definition I choose that best represents the word is that it means "to plan and make something artistically or skillfully." We use different types of designs to express our ideas to other viewers to get their opinions. In the picture below that is being used to depict the definition of design, someone has created multiple versions of how a future car should look before they begin to create it.

Different Types of Design

There are so many various types of design in the world. Some examples of these kind of designs are fashion, architecture, and automotive. These designs help to express what the creator is thinking in each specific genre.
